Hype aside, the program is without question interesting to mathematicians, computer scientists, and engineers because of its combination of a number of technologies that have arisen in initially separate contexts|numerical and symbolic mathematics, graphics, and modern user interfaces. The exploitation of the PostScript language for plotting contributed to its natural t into the package of programs initially released for the NeXT workstation.
